No. Coupl Software India Private Limited does not hold a banking license. The underlying account is a Prepaid Payment Instrument (PPI) issued by LivQuik Technology (India) Pvt Ltd, which is authorized by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to issue PPIs.

Can unmarried couples open a Coupl account?

Yes. Coupl is open to all couples — married, in a long-term relationship, dating, or same-sex. You do not need to prove any marital or legal status to open an account.

What documents do I need to open a Coupl account?

You need a valid Indian mobile number and a government-issued ID (Aadhaar or PAN) for KYC. The entire process is in-app and takes under 60 seconds.

Is there a minimum balance requirement?

No. Coupl requires zero minimum balance. You can open and maintain your account with ₹0.

Can both partners add money to the joint wallet?

Yes. Either partner can add money to the shared wallet at any time via UPI, IMPS, or NEFT from any bank account.

Can I set spending limits for my partner?

Yes. The Coupl app lets you set individual spending limits and alerts for each card, so both partners stay within the agreed budget.

What happens to the account if we separate?

Either partner can close the account at any time through the app. The remaining balance will be returned per the Terms of Service.

Opening and maintaining a Coupl account is free with no monthly fees. However, some transactions have fees: IMPS transfers cost ₹31.86–₹75.52 per transaction, and ATM withdrawals cost ₹29.50 per withdrawal.

Your money is held by LivQuik Technology (India) Pvt Ltd, an RBI-authorized PPI issuer. However, since this is a PPI and not a bank savings account, deposits are not covered under the DICGC ₹5 lakh deposit insurance scheme.
