Manali sits at 2,050m in the Beas river valley and is one of India's most visited hill stations for good reason. Snow-covered peaks, pine forests, adventure sports, and a hippie café culture combine to make it endlessly romantic.
Rohtang Pass (3,978m) is the iconic snow point. From May to November (weather permitting), you can drive up for jaw-dropping views. Permits are required and limited — book online at himachalrohtang.nic.in at least 3 days ahead (₹550 per vehicle).
Solang Valley is better for activities — paragliding (₹1,500/person), zorbing, and quad biking are all available. In winter (Dec–Feb) it becomes a ski resort.
Hadimba Temple is a 16th-century cedar wood temple surrounded by ancient deodar forest. The walk from Mall Road takes 20 minutes and the forest is stunning in any season.
By Bus: HRTC Volvo from Delhi ISBT Kashmere Gate (₹1,300–1,800 per person, 14–16 hours). Book at hrtchp.com or Redbus.
By Air + Cab: Bhuntar Airport (Kullu) is 50km away. Flights from Delhi take 1 hour but are expensive (₹4,000–8,000). Cab from airport to Manali costs ₹1,500–2,000.
By Train + Bus: Train to Chandigarh or Ambala, then bus to Manali (7–8 hours). Cheapest option for those coming from far.
